We created this page to give you an idea of what it's like to attend a service a our church.
Childcare & Sunday School |
Childcare is available in our nursery for children under the age of 3. You can check them in before the service. Our Magnificent Kidz ministry is offered for children from ages 4 - 13. They are dismissed from the adult service after we finish singing worship songs and transition to preaching of God's Word (usually around 11 am). To learn more, visit our children's ministry page. |
Coffee/Refreshments |
After each service, you are invited to join us for coffee and refreshments. We know that meeting new people can be uncomfortable for some, so we encourage our people to say hello and chat with our newcomers, and we encourage you to do the same. We hope you'll have the opportunity to connect with some of our wonderful people at The Oaks in a pleasant and meaningful way. |
Communion |
The Oaks celebrates Communion (known as the Lord's Table or Eucharist in some traditions) on the third Sunday of each month. All those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour are invited to participate in this symbolic act of remembrance of Christ's sacrificial death for our sin. Ushers will serve the congregation crackers (symbol of Christ's broken body) and grape juice (symbol of Christ's shed blood). When everyone has received these emblems, we then partake together. |
Dress |
Dress is generally casual, although you might find that some people like to dress up a bit. We encourage you to dress however you feel comfortable. |
Giving (Offering) |
During each worship service, we take a collection which is a free-will offering of monies. As such we discourage giving under compulsion or a sense of duty. We believe that our people ought to give to the Lord as an act of worship and in obedience to God's Word which encourages generous and joyful giving to the Lord. The monies received are used to support the operations and ministries of our church, as well as outreach to our community and overseas missions. To learn more, visit our giving page. |
Greeters & Ushers |
You will be welcomed at the door by one of our greeters. Our greeters are there to give you a warm welcome and answer any questions you might have about the building or the service. Our ushers are there to give you a bulletin (upcoming events and information about The Oaks) and help you find a seat, if needed. |
Information Centre |
If you have time before or after the service, visit our booth in the foyer where you will find information about church ministries and other activities. |
Service times |
Our Sunday morning services begin at 10:30 AM. It is advisable to arrive 10-15 minutes before the service if it is your first visit, especially if you have children as they will need to be registered if they will be attending Sunday School. This will give you a chance to get familiar with our facilities, and for some of our people to welcome you. A typical service is finished by noon. To learn more, visit our When We Gather page. |
Worship |
Our Sunday worship services are moderately contemporary. We have a worship band that lead the congregation by singing contemporary worship choruses, as well as some "heritage" songs (i.e. hymns and older choruses). We are an evangelical church in the Pentecostal tradition. This means that the services are more informal and free-flowing. We encourage our people to be expressive in worship, which means that you will likely see some of our people raising their hands in worship. Every service opens with a welcome, scripture reading and prayer. Following a brief time for special announcements and a collection of monies (offering), we enter into a time of worship that is followed by the preaching of God's Word which is typically a challenging, relevant and practical message from our pastor. On occasion, there will be a time for response to the message that we refer to as altar ministry - this occurs after the benediction (word of blessing for the congregation as they are dismissed). |
