"Forty years ago a revolution began in the church…After centuries of institutionalization the church is returning to the homes and lives of its people…Small group ministry is sweeping the church and writing another chapter in its rich heritage."
- Jeff Arnold, Starting Small Groups

Welcome to a Pathway to Life!

"Christian Life Groups" is the name given to our small group ministry here at Church in the Oaks. We have found the significance of Jesus’ words in Matthew 18:18, to be very meaningful to our Christian development: “For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, I am there in the midst of them.” Because the church is Christ’s Body, it is essential for believers to gather together, in Christ, for the matter of fellowshipping together with the Lord for our growth in the divine life. We find this best accomplished when Christians gather in groups small enough for everyone’s input, sharing and testifying.

In our experience, we have found it very helpful to keep our love for the Lord, our growth in life and our exercising of our gifts in the body strong by gathering in small groups in informal settings. We call these groups “Christian” because Christ is the focus and content of these gatherings. We call them “Life” because the goal of these meetings is to increase in the Life of the Lord in our spirit. They are not social gatherings, nor for the purpose of meeting the recreational needs of adults. We have found that what the church stands in need of today is not entertainment, nor further distractions, but to be re-focused and immersed in the Spirit of Christ for life transformation.

Here at Church in The Oaks we seek to connect fellow believers together in supportive groups where their spiritual life can be nourished in genuine fellowship. It offers us a place to practice the “one-anothering” commandments of Christ and a place to both give and receive out of what the Lord is doing among His own people in this generation.

"...to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness
instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of
despair." Is 61:3

The early church gathered together in both larger meetings and smaller gatherings in homes. In several places in the New Testament we read that the church met in peoples homes (cf. Colossians 4:15 and Romans 16:5). Acts 2:42 reveals how the first Christians met together and gives us a picture of what their fellowship was like: "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teachings and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer…” The next verse goes on to say, "Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done..."

Something very dynamic was happening in their midst! And as they gathered in the Lord’s interests, God met with them and lives where transformed. We have found this to be true in our experience. Nothing so nurtures our spiritual life as the regular gathering of the church in small groups for this kind of fellowshipping and spiritual exercise.

Feel free to look around at what is happening in our Christian Life Groups. Our prayer is that the Lord would stir your own heart of the need for all believers to participate in a genuine body life and manifest the truth of Christ to our generation.
